FAQ

Is this app better than the official one? What’s wrong with the Comelit app?

I wouldn’t say it’s better in every way, but the official app has a long list of things that could work much better. People have asked for these (not only me) and they’ve stayed roughly the same for years. Among them:

  • Opening time. I have more than a hundred devices, and the official app reloads them from scratch every time. That’s at least three seconds of a jumping, flickering layout, with the menu filling in piece by piece. It wears you down.
  • Crashes. On iPhone the official app often quits on its own. Scenarios are a frequent spot; climate schedules, for me, never survived the first tap.
  • Awkward controls. The climate control is the clearest example: a dial in tenths of a degree that opens the menu if you drag sideways, and that almost never lands on the value you wanted (and when it does, it often ticks by a tenth as you lift your finger). Editing scenarios with a swipe is just as fussy: a bit too far and you delete the row, a bit too little and it snaps back. There are many details like that: it doesn’t feel like an app used every day by the people who have to live with it.
  • A dated look that’s hard to adapt. There are some options, but the favourites home, for instance, is awkward: a few huge tiles, and you end up with three lights, three blinds, and half a door station on screen.

Come.lite comes from someone who actually uses this system, so it has to work. I spent hours on small details if they made my day easier. For me it’s better now; I can’t promise it will be for everyone, but I’d like you to try it.

How does Come.lite reproduce the functionality of the Comelit app? Does it use a public/documented protocol?

Everything here comes from studying how the official app talks to the system: Comelit doesn’t publish how their devices communicate. Development was done on the hardware I have at home, so I can’t promise every model or every setup. I don’t have Comelit’s full catalogue to test against, but I’m confident it will work well for most people.

“Something I used in the Comelit app is missing.” Or: “could it also do this?”

In Come.lite I tried to bring in everything I could find in the official app, and I tested it on my own devices. There may well be something I never discovered, or something that needs hardware I don’t have.

That said, within what Comelit hardware allows, tell me what it could do next and I’ll do what I can. You can write from the contact form.

Does it support door entry or not? It’s unclear.

Yes, if the door station is attached to a home hub. No, if it’s a standalone Wi-Fi unit (for example Comelit Mini Wi-Fi or similar).

For hub-connected door entry, the app tries to set up the link on its own. That’s an extra step beyond the rest of the home, and you need two things: a Comelit account sign-in, and opening Come.lite at least once on your home Wi-Fi.

Door-call notifications are off by default: you can turn them on (and choose how they arrive) in settings.

Can I use this together with the official Comelit app?

Yes. They can live side by side. The only care, if you want door-station calls, is to keep notifications on in only one of the two apps. In Come.lite they’re off by default, so you can run lights, blinds, and climate here while the official app still rings for the door. If you then prefer Come.lite, turn notifications on here and off in the official app.

Is the app safe? Why does it ask for my Comelit sign-in?

Come.lite does not store your Comelit account credentials in any way, not on the device and not on our servers. You use them only to sign in to Comelit’s services, as in the official app: to control your devices when you’re not on your home Wi-Fi, and also for door entry.

Why “Come.lite”? What does it mean?

“Come.lite”, said “comelait”, is half a mash-up and half a pun: a “lite” Comelit app, slimmer, next to the official one, which is a bit fat and a bit more wobbly.
